SEPANG: Malaysia will launch a strong and comprehensive protest and engage with partner nations if the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) mission to Gaza is disrupted.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he would mobilise every effort to liaise with various countries, including world powers.
"We will initiate a strong and comprehensive protest, and I will use every means to contact all parties, particularly countries that have proposed peace, including Italy, Spain and Turkiye, as well as China's support.
"We are also monitoring initiatives being developed by France and Saudi Arabia, with whom we are in contact, as they intend to propose peace," he told reporters at a press conference following his visit to the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC) today.
During the visit, Anwar received a briefing from SNCC director-general and spokesperson Datuk Dr Sani Araby Abdul Alim before speaking with the Malaysians aboard the flotilla.
The prime minister added that the government was prepared to provide assistance to the families of the 34 Malaysians participating in the flotilla to ensure their welfare is safeguarded.
As patron of Sumud Nusantara, Anwar assured that support would be extended to the delegation and their families so they do not face difficulties during the mission.
He also praised the courage and determination shown by the Malaysian delegates taking part in the GSF to deliver aid to the people of Palestine.
"God willing, the government will continue to support you in whatever you may need and also assist your families here in Malaysia.
"I do not want families to feel anxious or face difficulties with any issues, so we will provide assistance to them as well as to you," he said during a teleconference with the 34 Malaysians joining the GSF at the SNCC.
He added that the resolve of the 34 Malaysians was extraordinary, marking a historic moment in the struggle to uphold justice and defend the rights of the Palestinian people.
"These days of the mission are challenging, and there may be threats or attacks, but with strong spirit, the strength is remarkable. The dedication of these 34 Malaysians has already become a historic force in defending Palestinian rights," he said.
Anwar also prayed for the success of the GSF mission, emphasising its role in breaking down the walls of tyranny and violence perpetrated by Israel in Palestine.
"I am constantly in touch with international friends, including world leaders, to ensure this mission is prioritised. This is a team of young Malaysians who have bravely stepped forward to confront the oppression and violence in Palestine," he added.
Earlier, Sani Araby said that the flotilla was expected to enter the Red Zone within 28 hours, around 7pm tomorrow.
