Malaysian News--KOTA KINABALU: The Coroner's Court was today told that Zara Qairina Mahathir had spoken about falling from the third floor of her school to a student in April.
The eighth child witness in the inquest gave evidence that Zara Qairina had asked her how she would feel if she were to fall from the third floor of the school.
Lawyer Datuk Ram Singh, who is representing one of the children charged in relation to the Zara Qairina case, informed the media about today's proceedings.
"Zara had said to her: 'How if I were to jump from the third floor, would you be sad?'
"The witness told Zara, 'Why did you say that? It is not good.' She said Zara then kept quiet.
"It is a sad thing when somebody had that in mind way back in April this year," Ram said, adding that the eighth witness would continue her testimony on Oct 7.
Lawyer Rizwandean M Borhan, who is representing Zara Qairina's family, said the seventh child witness had described Zara, who wanted to become a surau prefect, as cheerful, talkative and someone who corrected other students in a good way.
"She said that because of Zara Qairina's character, there were also some who did not like her.
"When we asked why, she said it was because Zara used to record the names of students who skipped congregational prayers."
Next Tuesday, a witness from the Chemistry Department will be called to testify on DNA samples. The expert is one of the 68 witnesses listed.
The inquest, which began on Sept 3 before Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan, is looking into the death of Zara Qairina, who was found unconscious on July 16 in her dormitory at SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha in Papar.
