UK Energy Secretary Miliband said that due to the environmental impact of hydraulic fracturing, the Labour government plans to permanently ban this highly controversial fossil fuel extraction technology.
According to Agence France Presse, Ed Miliband proposed a ban on hydraulic fracturing at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool on Wednesday (October 1) because "this technology would undermine our climate commitments and pose a danger and serious harm to the natural environment".
Due to concerns that hydraulic fracturing may cause earthquakes, the UK has implemented a suspension order on this technology, but has not yet completely banned it at the legal level. The far right Reform Party, which has recently surpassed the support rate of the Labour Party in polls, has promised to restore this technology if in power.
France, Germany and other countries have completely banned hydraulic fracturing technology, but it is showing a thriving development trend in the United States.
Hydraulic fracturing is used to extract oil and gas from deep underground shale formations. Environmentalists point out that this technology will pollute water sources, harm wildlife, trigger earthquakes, and exacerbate global climate change.
