A 25-year-old woman from Hebei Province, China, is suspected to have died from domestic violence, with blood stains in her bedroom and bathroom
The victim's family does not agree with the term 'domestic violence'
On August 22nd, a news about a woman named Liu from Mengcun County, Cangzhou, Hebei Province, who was suspected to have been killed by her husband Jin due to domestic violence spread locally and quickly attracted attention.
At 23:27 on August 24, the local public security bureau issued a police report saying that the suspect Jin and Zhang had been captured.
On August 22, 2025, the Mengcun County Public Security Bureau received a report that a criminal case had occurred in a certain residential area, resulting in the death of the victim Liu (female, 25 years old). After receiving the police, the public security organ carried out on-site investigation, investigation and evidence collection according to law, arrested suspect Jin (male, 26 years old, Liu's husband) and Zhang (female, 48 years old, Jin's mother, suspected of helping destroy and forge evidence), and took compulsory criminal detention measures according to law.
The report further disclosed that after forensic examination, Liu died from blunt external force induced brain injury and was not pregnant. In order to handle the case strictly and impartially in accordance with the law, and under the jurisdiction designated by the Cangzhou Public Security Bureau, this case has been transferred to the Suning County Public Security Bureau for further investigation.
It is rumored online that this is a case of domestic violence leading to death. Liu suffered from domestic violence for a long time until tragedy occurred. On August 25th, a staff member of the Women's Federation of Mengcun County told China Newsweek that they had not received any feedback on domestic violence from the parties involved before. They have now contacted the county public security bureau and will meet with the victims' families to discuss relevant matters and provide legal assistance according to their needs in the next step.
The victim's family does not agree with the term 'domestic violence'. The younger brother of the victim Liu, Liu Gang (pseudonym), told China Newsweek that this was not a simple domestic violence. On the night of the incident, surveillance footage showed that Jin's parents had appeared at the scene and "it was their family who killed my sister".
He said, 'Jin is a temporary worker at the procuratorate and I am not familiar with the specific job responsibilities.'.
In response, the staff of the Mengcun County Procuratorate Office stated that they have paid attention to the incident and will refer to the police situation report for specific details.
Repeated domestic violence
China Newsweek learned from multiple sources that Liu and Jin were high school classmates who attended the same school in college. Liu Gang said that his sister had a high score at that time and applied to this school for the sake of Jin.
Chen Fang (pseudonym) is a high school alumnus of Liu. He told China Newsweek that Liu is simple, outgoing, and loves to laugh. In high school, she fell in love with Jin and they briefly broke up after graduating from high school. At that time, her friends around her advised her not to reconcile, saying, 'When he (Jin) was in high school, he was a little' thug 'with power and influence, and loved to hit people. We were all afraid of him.'.
Jin's junior high school classmate He Qiang (pseudonym) told China Newsweek that he and Jin were in the same class but different classes, and their initial impression of him was that he loved bullying other students. He Qiang said that many people in the county town know Mr. Jin, which originated from the incident last year when he had an argument with an elderly person in the county square and then physically assaulted him. "It's like he had already become popular in this county.
Liu Gang told China Newsweek that his family had opposed the marriage before marriage, and his parents were understanding and considering his sister's insistence, they ultimately respected her choice.
On October 16, 2021, Liu and Jin got married. Liu Gang recalled that on the 29th of that month, Jin, who was drunk, physically attacked his sister. At that time, Liu's family went to Jin's house, and Jin's mother hit him a few times, saying, 'I have no way of disciplining myself, and my son is not human,' but did not formally apologize.
Domestic violence has repeatedly occurred since then. Liu Gang said that when her sister returned to her mother's home, her body was covered in scars, sometimes from the corners of her eyes and sometimes from her arms. When her family asked her, she said she had been injured from a bike ride and "wanted to preserve the dignity of her marriage. The family once tried to communicate with Jin's elders about this matter, but when Jin found out, he would vent his anger on his sister, saying, "My sister is afraid that the family will worry, so she won't say anything anymore. Until around 2am on a certain day in July this year, my sister messaged her mother saying that the man had cheated on her, and since then, she has rarely returned to her parents' home.
Chen Fang recalled that since Liu got married, they had not contacted each other again and always thought that she lived a happy life, "because she only shared beautiful things and her heart was full of beauty". After hearing the news of Liu's death, Chen Fang felt particularly heartbroken and said, 'She doesn't deserve to die, she's a very, very good person.'.
He Qiang said that the incident had already spread in the county on August 22nd, and he heard that the child may have witnessed the process. I can't prove it either. If it's true, this child must have some psychological problems, right
After the incident, the whereabouts of the children received attention. Liu Gang stated that he is not aware of where his sister and son are currently located. The staff of the Women's Federation of Mengcun County mentioned above told China Newsweek that the child will take turns living with the male relatives, but the specific situation is not yet known and will continue to be followed up.
The car has arrived and is now dead
At around 7:36 am on August 22nd, Liu Dong received a phone call from his daughter Liu's father-in-law, who said that her daughter was in the emergency department and asked him to go to the hospital as soon as possible, without saying that the child had already died.
13 minutes later, Liu Dong called 110 to report the case.
When Liu Dong arrived at the emergency room, the scene before him was unbearable: his daughter's face was bruised and swollen, and there were large bloodstains on the bed sheets beside her. He's swollen so much that he can't see his appearance anymore, and his whole body is already cold, "the doctor told him," He's already dead.
According to the timeline compiled by the family, at 8:50, the members of the criminal investigation team arrived at the hospital; At 9:04, the police arrived at the crime scene community. At 9:30, the locksmith arrived on site. During this period, the families of the victims have repeatedly requested to go upstairs for inspection. The police, citing the need to wait for the city bureau to collect evidence and protect the scene, have requested that the families of the victims wait downstairs.
During the waiting process, the victim's family learned that Jin's mother was present at the time of the incident. "We suspect that his mother destroyed the surveillance footage in the room," Liu Gang said. The subsequent police report confirmed this situation.
At 10:14, the police completed the evidence collection and the victim's family was able to enter the crime scene. The victim's family saw bloodstains and cleaning marks on the sheets, walls, and floor of the southeast bedroom, as well as blood stains in the bathroom and another bedroom.
The appraisal opinion notice issued by the Suning County Public Security Bureau on August 24th shows that the bureau hired relevant personnel to conduct an autopsy and cause of death appraisal on Liu's body. The appraisal opinion is that the deceased Liu died due to blunt external force causing brain injury.
According to the emergency medical records provided by the families of the victims, the Mengcun County Emergency Center received an order at 7:08 am on August 22, stating that the patient had "died upon arrival" and "stopped breathing and heartbeat at an unknown time". Another report issued by the hospital around 13:00 on August 22 showed that the patient had "subarachnoid blood deposition... hematoma under the right temporal and left parietal scalp, pulmonary congestion, and a small amount of pericardial effusion..." In addition, the patient was "in the healing period of the right transverse process fracture of the waist 1-3.
Liu Gang said that at around 10 o'clock that day, he saw his sister with bruises on her nose and swollen face, and "could no longer recognize her appearance". However, Jin's father was only far away from the morgue, without speaking or approaching.
On the same day, Liu Gang's family tried to contact Jin's parents to learn about the specific situation, but they searched all their residences in the county town and found none.
This is not simple domestic violence, but intentional homicide, "the victim's family believes. According to online rumors, Jin's infidelity partner is pregnant, and Jin once forced Liu to divorce. However, Liu disagreed because he was worried that the child would be awarded to the man, which may have sparked the man's murderous intent.
As of the time of publication, the families of the victims stated that they are not sure whether the destroyed surveillance footage has been retrieved. The passing of my sister is a lifelong blow to my parents. We want to know what exactly happened, and our current demand is to fight for our lives and give us justice, "Liu Gang said.
