KUCHING, Sept 3 (Bernama) -- Sarawak-owned higher learning institution, i-CATS University College today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Boeing to strengthen aerospace education and talent development in Sarawak, marking a key milestone in the state’s ambition to become a regional hub for aerospace and high-technology industries.

In a statement, i-CATS said the collaboration builds on the recent launch of its Aerospace Engineering programme and is set to provide students with greater industry exposure, academic opportunities, and global linkages.

Under the MoU, the college will engage Boeing experts in industry workshops, speaker sessions, and competitions organised by the i-CATS Aerospace Students’ Club.

“The partnership will also support the design and delivery of coursework and executive education certificates focusing on sustainable aviation, supply chain management, and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO).

“In addition, it will identify potential partnerships with industry players and international academic institutions to foster research opportunities for both undergraduate and postgraduate students,” the statement said.

Boeing Southeast Asia president, Penny Burtt said the company is committed to supporting Sarawak’s vision of building a strong and sustainable aerospace ecosystem.

“Equipping i-CATS students with STEM resources and development opportunities is exactly what is needed to help inspire and grow Malaysia’s aviation workforce of the future,” she said.

Meanwhile, i-CATS University College Vice Chancellor, Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi said the partnership reflects the institution’s commitment to producing industry-ready graduates.

“This collaboration with Boeing reflects our dedication to nurturing a new generation of aerospace professionals who are not only industry-ready but also equipped with the innovation and skills required to drive Sarawak’s high-technology aspirations.

“Together, we are laying the foundation for Sarawak to emerge as a competitive hub for aerospace education and research in the region,” he said.

The partnership, according to i-CATS, is expected to enhance Sarawak’s standing as a key player in the aerospace sector, supporting Malaysia’s broader goals of strengthening its aviation and technology industries.
